I just watched both these movies for the 1st time. Drive was terrible. There was barely any actual driving and none of it seemed especially impressive. I liked Need For Speed. I thought it had a good story line unlike Drive and all the cars were sweet. The driving was pretty cool and there didn't seem to be that many completely impossible stunts.

I concur entirely with both parts. Drive was a huge let down for me. But I really liked NFS. It was much less of a cheese-fest than I expected. Plus, the truck they use is pretty BA

You're joking right?

Drive was a fantastic movie. Sure the cars were a bit generic, especially compared to a world where you can just casually drive three Koenigsegg's, but the chase scenes were way more genuine. The acting, story, sound track, and visuals were all better in drive. NFS was a summer blockbuster, poor story, major action and questionable acting. Theres nothing wrong with that but I wouldnt call it better.

Not that. It's a good movie. Not really great for someone expecting a car enthusiast flick. But a good movie.

I mean if the prize for a race is millions of dollars worth of cars its not going to be done with cars you would normally expect to be street raced. If part of the plot is about how good of a driver they are then it makes sense they would be piloting some of the fastest cars ever made. The scenes in Drive where someone gets killed were pretty poor in my opinion. And as you know Need For Speed is named after a video game where they race these kinds of cars and have chase/crash scenes just the same. Drive as a movie just seemed so slow to me.

I knew it was not supposed to be a movie for car enthusiast, but there is barely any actual driving throughout the movie.

Unfortunately not, but in the movie cops say use of lethal force was being considered or something like that and it immediately made me think of the game.

NFS was terrible. There were plot holes big enough to race a bunch of exotic cars through it.

So... when you win this huge race you walk away with... nothing, because all of the cars that were supposed to be your 'prize' for winning got wrecked. So how are you going to pay that guy back?

It's a good thing the race ends at a dead end so the police can finally catch you.

You're just gonna keep the only evidence that links you to a murder, tucked away in a garage, under a sheet? You're not even gonna fix the damage, maybe repaint the car a different colour?

Ya, the whole thing was just left me scratching my head a lot.

Drive was a decent flick, I don't think it's as great as people make it out to be, but it's just not a car flick.

Le Mans is the best car/racing movie ever. I know this because I watched it again last night.

It's meant to have that downbeat tone to it. I can see why it would be a bit bland if you're not really a movie guy.

Drive was hit or miss for many people. Some folks didn't like the "soundtrack only" scenes without dialogue, finding them empty, boring, and even distracting.

Personally, I loved those scenes. I found them to be incredibly powerful and immersive since they really allowed the viewer to take in and process every detail (not just visual) of the scene, rather than the usual "turn your brain off and follow" dialogue.

Drive wasn't really a car movie. More like a love song to 80s music. Which, when looked at that way, wasn't half bad.

Need for Speed was a series of cliches, but as movies of that sort go, I enjoyed it. And that Imogene Poots girl... Yes.

The only reason NFS sucks is because a helicopter hovered above my apt for several hours in the wee hours of the morning while they shot the street racing scenes.

NFS was shit. Utter shit.

Drive was one of the best movies the year it came out, and one of my favorite genre movies.

"Drive" doesn't just refer to the main character's professions. The movie is about the choices the characters make, and how those choices drive them. It's a character study more than anything.

Unfortunately such movies get criticized these days for being "slow", "dull" and "boring" because they lack booms, bangs, and the MTV-like and ADD-friendly directorial style that marks most modern garbage....I mean cinema...
